Learn German in Winter

Learning German while skiing in Austria is a unique way to overcome language barriers. In the beautiful winter landscape, in the fresh air with exercise and fun, learning and speaking German becomes a pleasure. For all winter sports enthusiasts, the DIT offers intensive German language courses and is happy to help you plan your winter holiday.

The courses take place in the mornings. From lunchtime onwards, you can already head towards the peaks in the lift, in order to finish off the ski day later in the afternoon with a stop for refreshments in one of the cosy ski lodges on the edge of the piste. On three evenings, in addition to the lessons, there is an entertaining leisure programme in form of conversation rounds in German over a cosy coffee, beer and/or dinner. The last few insecurities in speaking can be eliminated with ease here. Thanks to the friendly and relaxed atmosphere, it is suddenly very easy to find the right words in German.

German courses in Austria's most famous ski resort

The world-famous Hahnenkamm ski race in Kitzbühel with the notorious Streif downhill run - the rodeo of skiing competitions - has produced many skiing legends: Toni Sailer, Franz Klammer, Hermann Maier (and many more).  No wonder that Kitzbühel is considered by many to be the Mecca of mountain and, above all, skiing - even for hobby skiers. With its 233 kilometres of downhill runs, Kitzbühel has been voted "World's Best Ski Resort" for the 10th time in a row in 2022 by Skiresort.de, the largest test portal - out of almost 6000 ski resorts.

The beauty and location of the ski and alpine town of Kitzbühel prompted the director of the DIT, Hans Ebenhöh, a passionate mountain enthusiast, to open a German language school here in January 1981. Combining the German courses with skiing and snowboarding has been the trademark of the DIT for decades. Nowhere else can you find German language courses with a world-famous ski resort right under your nose.

What else can you do in Kitzbühel in winter?

Besides skiing and snowboarding in Kitzbühel's varied slopes, you can also enjoy other activities after your German lessons, such as tobogganing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ski touring or ice skating on the frozen lake and in the ice rink. Enjoy a leisurely walk in the winter landscape. Stroll through the medieval small town and enjoy a warming hot chocolate in a nice café.  There are also plenty of après-ski opportunities to go out to a bar, etc. If you prefer it quiet, visit one of the traditional restaurants and fortify yourself with delicious Tyrolean or international delicacies. There is something nice to do for everyone in Kitzbühel. Those who like to relax in a spa can also spend a day in the wellness landscape of the chic 5* hotels. There are affordable day offers.

The Advent market is open from the end of November to 26 December every Wednesday to Sunday from 14:00 to 20:00. The splendour of the traditional Alpine town and the contemplation of the pre-Christmas period make for a wonderful end to the year.

The 2023/2024 winter season is coming. The cable cars will be in operation from the end of November.
